Sip a beverage and enjoy holiday shopping at a new pop-up Christmas market in downtown Port Coquitlam.

Award-winning brewery Patina Brewing Co. and Cassandra Cake Co. of Food Network fame will be hosting the Christmas Craft Market on Monday, Nov. 28 between 4 p.m. and 8 pm., featuring dozens of local vendors.

Organized by the Sweet and Salty Collective Co., the holiday shopping event will be an opportunity to mingle, enjoy beverages and baked treats while also supporting Access Youth Outreach Services, a support organization for vulnerable Tri-City youth.

The event is being held just over one year after Curtis and her team won the Big Bake competition on Food Network.

Her mother Karen Curtis, who runs the Access Youth life skills cooking class, Youth Gour-Made, said the holiday shopping event will bring dozens of some of the best local vendors together for a good cause.

"It’s a curated event. The only vendors are people we've invited — the best of the best," said Curtis, who started Kics Lemonade and runs the Haney Farmers Market.

Entrance is by donation, she said, and gift wrapping will be offered, with proceeds going to Access Youth programs.

Jessica Williams, executive director of Access, said the help is coming at a critical time for the organization, which runs the Project Reach Out bus serving homeless and at risk youth.

"A little [of the money raised] will go into every program," said Williams. "All our programs are in need"

The chance to support a local organization was important for Kyle O'Genski, co-owner of Patina.

"The charity aspect was the 'gold seal of approval' to be involved," he told the Tri-City News.

The event is being described as a night of "cupcakes and beer," according to Melissa Maltais, who is a member of the Sweet and Salty Collective, along with Curtis.

"We thought it would be great to get all of our friends together," said Maltais, whose business is making organic food products, among other things.
