The Coquitlam Express scored five goals in the third period to spark a 6-4 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday in Port Alberni.

Five goals in the third period powered the Coquiltam Express to a 6-4 comeback win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Saturday in Port Alberni.

Trailing 3-1 after two periods, Joseph Odyniec got the visitors to within a goal early in the third period but Alberni Valley’s Mason Croucher restored his team’s two goal advantage at 14:21.

But 28 seconds later Drew Garzone narrowed the margin again and 14 second later it was tied when Noah Dziver scored his first of two goals. He struck again 100 seconds later to give the Express the lead.

An empty net goal by James Shannon with 1:15 left in regulation sealed Coquitlam’s fourth win in its past five games.

Adam Manji stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced in the Express net, while the Bulldogs. Callum Tung made 31 saves.

The win moves Coquitlam to within a point of the fourth place Nanaimo Clippers in the BC Hockey League’s Coastal division. The two teams face each other Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Nanaimo.
