The chair of the Coquitlam Public Library (CPL) board said trustees will be looking for a new director following the recent departure of Rhiann Piprell.
On Wednesday, Jack Trumley declined to comment on why Piprell is no longer employed by the board, saying the matter is "strictly confidential between the library and Ms. Piprell."
"I can't comment at this time," he said.
Dan McDonald, communications manager for the city of Coquitlam, also declined to comment on the personnel matter.
Reached yesterday at her home, Piprell would not give specifics about her sudden exit, which is believed to have happened May 9.
Trumley said CPL assistant director Silvana Harwood is now the interim director of the library, which has two branches: one on Poirier Street, the other in City Centre that opened last fall on Pinetree Way.
Piprell was appointed deputy director of the Coquitlam Library in September 2003 and, a few years later, replaced director Karen Harrison. Previously, she was the library manager of the Mission branch of the Fraser Valley Regional Library.
Piprell completed her master's degree in economics in management of library and information services from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in June 2004.
During her term in Coquitlam, Piprell was on the BC Library Association board of directors and took part in a number of community organizations, winning accolades for her work.
