Broken pipe sends sewage into Coquitlam's Scott Creek

Crews in Coquitlam have been working to patch a crack in a broken pipe that sent sewage and waste water into Scott Creek over the weekend.

Crews in Coquitlam have been working to patch a crack in a broken pipe that sent sewage and waste water into Scott Creek over the weekend.

The break in the 14-inch pipe was discovered on Saturday in the 1100 block of Lansdowne and as of Sunday night crews were able to stop the leak.

Suction trucks have been placed on site and at various parts of the creek in order to minimize the environmental damage, according to a city of Coquitlam press release.

Crews believe the main is broken in at least one area, but do not know what caused the main to break.

The city has been working with officials from the Ministry of Environment and the Fraser Health Authority.
