While caseloads across B.C. continue to drop, Burnaby is seeing a seesaw trend.

According to the latest provincial Weekly Data Summary for May 5 to 11, 2021, northeast Burnaby saw an increase of its recent seven-day case incidence average daily rates per 100,000 population while northwest Burnaby saw a decrease.

The data is released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

As of May 11, Burnaby's caseloads account for roughly seven per cent of the provincial total, which equates to almost five per cent of B.C.'s population.

From May 5 to 11, the city has the sixth-highest average daily rate of new cases per 100,000 population by local health area.

The cities above Burnaby are Delta, Hope, Mission, Abbotsford and Surrey.

Although Fraser Health continues to see the highest positivity rate of any health authority in the province, the good news is that first doses of COVID-19 vaccinations continue to see large numbers daily.

The BCCDC says Burnaby has seen 41 to 60% vaccination coverage rate of adults that are 18 years of age and older and a 61 to 80% for the 55 and older age group.

As of this publication, a total of 901,064 first doses have been administered in Fraser Health and an overall total (including second doses) of 944,173.

B.C. has recorded 2,435,099 first vaccinations to date followed by an overall total of 2,566,936 with vaccine deliveries continuing to increase weekly.

The BCCDC says Fraser Health has a total case count of 81,634 since the pandemic hit the province with 872 confirmed deaths in the health authority.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix will release a written update this afternoon (May 19) at roughly 3 p.m.
