The Home Depot hopes to hammer home the need to support local charities with its 7th annual Buy A Hammer, Build our Community campaign.

Starting this week, customers shopping at the Langley, Surrey and Coquitlam Home Depot store can donate $2 to purchase a 'paper hammer.' All proceeds raised will support Tri-City Transitions Society, an organization that provides help and hope to women and families who have been impacted by violence and abuse in the Tri-City communities.

Funds generated by the campaign that runs until July 3 will also support programs that ensure young people in need will also have access to affordable housing.

"The foundation believes safe, stable, affordable housing matters," stated foundation chair Peg Hunter in a press release. "Working together and supporting affordable housing, we can help build brighter futures and stronger communities for everyone."

The Tri-City Transitions offers counseling and groups for women who have experienced sexual assault, relationship or childhood abuse.

Over the years, the Buy a Hammer, Build Our Community campaign has helped more than 250 local charitable organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Nipissing Transition House and My Friends House in Collingwood, to name a few.

More than 1,250,000 paper hammers have been sold across Canada. and 100% per cent of all funds raised by the community stay in the community.

The Home Depot Canada Foundation has invested more than $10 Million in the development of affordable housing and community improvement projects across Canada.
