With the holiday season fast approaching, Share Family and Community Services is scrambling to make sure there is enough food stocked on the shelves to cover Christmas and the early January period when food donations typically slump
Donations are slower to come In the usual and Share CEO Martin Wyant hopes the next two weeks brings in a substantial quantity of food with as many as 40,000 items needed to be collected.
"We believe that feeding children, families, seniors, people with disabilities and others who need help in our community is fundamental. Too many people are going hungry," Wyant stated in a press release.
There is no set profile of a food bank client, people needing a little supplemental groceries come from all walks of life, "Too many far too many are children," he further stated.
Share doesn't receive government funding to support its operations and needs the help of charitable donors in the Tri-Cities.
To help out, drop off a non-perishable food item, such as canned fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice, canned fish and meat and peanut butter to Share's Port Moody food bank at 2615 Clarke Street, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. The Share food bank phone number is 604-931-2451.
