Can you guess what’s in the mystery brew?

Coquitlam's Mariner Brewing is offering customers the chance to win a $2,500 gift card if they can identify at least three aspects of their newest beer
Mariner Brewing is celebrating its third birthday with a contest for their customers.

With the COVID-19 pandemic putting the brakes on public gatherings, Mariner Brewing won’t be able to celebrate its third birthday with a people-packed bash next week.

Instead, the Coquitlam beer makers are offering their customers a chance to win a $2,500 gift card if they can guess three out of five aspects of a new mystery brew. Purchasers of the unidentified beer, which can be picked up at the taproom or by delivery through their web store, are being asked to guess things like what kind of fruit or hops was used in the making of the sudsy beverage.

According to the company, the “head brewer brewed up a beer, kept the brew log under lock and key and kept it so secret that no one, even the team at Mariner, knows what went into brewing this beer.”

Tori Browning, the taproom manager, told The Tri-City News that the contest is a way of celebrating the anniversary while adhering to the current social distancing restrictions.

“We wanted to do something fun that would not promote gathering,” she said, adding: “This is a fun way to celebrate the community that has gotten us here and celebrate with them.”

To participate in the contest or learn more, go to marinerbrewing.ca and enter your guesses before the deadline (Aug. 27 at 11:59 p.m.). Entries will only be accepted via the the Mariner Brewing website — not through social media — and all contestants must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of B.C.
