CANDIDATE FOR PORT MOODY COUNCIL: Robert Vagramov

What do you know about Port Moody's budget, and what changes would you propose? "Cutting pay increases. Any budget increases should be done transparently.

What do you know about Port Moody's budget, and what changes would you propose?

"Cutting pay increases. Any budget increases should be done transparently. And I'd make sure as many services as possible are done in house; one or two small contracts might save money in the short term but if those are done repeatedly, it might make more sense to do it in-house. It's all about fiscal responsibility."

What issues will the Evergreen Line bring (good or bad) and how should those be handled?

"I'm not anti-development but I want this process to be done smart. People have told me they want to see low and medium rises. I have full confidence the police will keep us safe from any potential crime increases. And I'm very excited to have SkyTrain as a transit option but TransLink need to do more to keep SkyTrain running later at night."

What does Port Moody's "small-town charm" mean to you, and specify how you would preserve it.

"I would refer to as the Port Moody vibe - it's a sense of unity, a connection to the city. We're not a small town anymore but people are concerned about the "Metrotowning" of our city, turning into another generic suburb. The best way of preserving it is keeping it as one of the first considerations for development, and getting people more connected to the political process - a 26% voter turnout is very low."

What large infrastructure/capital project do you think Port Moody should build next?

"It's important to push TransLink into improvements for St. Johns Street, possibly a counterflow lane or 'green wave' light system, but something needs to be done about congestion before we can bring more people into the city."

Name two other top issues facing the city, and how you would tackle them.

"Basically Metrotownification and property taxes, parks and monster houses."
