A play about students' bullying experiences and produced by Terry Fox leadership students and director Mandy Tulloch is about to launch into the next phase of production.
An open casting-call has been announced for School District 43 students who wish to participate in "The Bullying Games" to be presented April 8-13 at Terry Fox Theatre.
Students aged 12 and older and attending school in SD43 are welcome to book a time for an audition, which will be held at Evergreen Cultural Centre on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 2:30-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6-10 p.m.
According to Tulloch, an award-winning writer, director and producer, Bullying Games will be double casting the roles in order to accommodate as many students as possible. Rehearsals start Feb. 2 with one cast rehearsing on Saturdays and the other on Sundays until the production starts.
Tulloch said in a prepared statement that students with a wide-range of talents are sought for the production that was conceived by Terry Fox leadership students as a way of promoting an anti-bullying message.
"We are looking for actors, singers, dancers and martial artists of all levels and experience who will commit their time to this production," stated Tulloch.
Bullying Games was written by Tulloch based on real-life experiences of SD43 students.
In December, as reported by The Tri-City News, students in Dean Whitson's class conducted research for the play and sold "Love is Louder than Bullying" t-shirts to raise funds for the production.
Tulloch said the show is based on many different types of real life bullying incidents, as they were revealed in the interviews conducted by Terry Fox leadership students a variety of District 43 schools this past fall.
Terry Fox principal Heather Murphy has also thrown her support behind the production. "We are very excited about this show as it brings the issues of bullying to life. It will engage the audience and we look forward to sharing the final production with as many students as possible in the school district."
