Claude Hrycaiko, parent advocate for School District 43, recently passed away. A celebration of life will be held this Saturday at the Pinetree Community Centre in Coquitlam.

A long-time education advocate for School District 43 has passed away, according to family members.

Claude Hrycaiko, who was president of the District 43 Parent Advisory Council from 2004–2006, died on June 1, 2023, surrounded by family.

A memorial is slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at the Pinetree Community Centre in Coquitlam (Rooms 5 and 6). Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

As a parent passionate about education, Hrycaiko had a long involvement in Tri-City schools.

Among his past involvement included:

  • Member of Coquitlam District (SD43) Parent Advisory Council (2003–08); president from 2004–06
  • Director of BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (2006)
  • Director of Canadian Home and School Foundation (2007)

According to family members, Hrycaiko continued to get calls regarding education concerns in recent years.
