A Vancouver resident is suing the city of Coquitlam after he was allegedly bit by a dog from the Coquitlam animal shelter.
Last week, Jae Hyon Kim filed a civil suit in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver, claiming he was hurt by a shelter dog named Lucy while it was being walked by a volunteer last December in Mundy Park.
The city has yet to file a statement of defence and none of Kim's claims have been proven in court.
According to the court document, Kim was in the park with his wife when the dog attacked him. He states in his claim that he "continues to suffer injury, loss and expense" as a result of the bite to his left leg that left a puncture wound, cuts, bruises and scars.
Kim's claim also states he suffers from post-traumatic stress and depression because of the incident, and he is now undergoing medical and rehabilitative treatment.
Kim is asking the city to pay for his damages and costs.
His document states the dog was impounded to the city last October and, the following month, it attacked and bit another dog.
The statement of claim alleges the city failed "to take any or reasonable precautions that Lucy was properly restrained and controlled and not a physical threat to the plaintiff" given its past violent behaviour.
City solicitor Heather Bradfield was unable to comment on the civil suit.
