Traffic on Clarke Road has been restored this morning as Coquitlam and Burnaby firefighters mop up a house fire that started early this morning (Tuesday).

Coquitlam Fire Chief Jim Ogloff said his firefighters were called to the scene in the 500 block of Clarke Road at Smith Avenue at about 7 a.m. this morning to support Burnaby smoke eaters in handling the blaze that appeared to have started in the basement.

No one was in the 1940s-era house which appeared to be used as an office as part of a used car dealership next door.

"We will have an investigator on scene and we'll determine the cause," said Ogloff, who said the fire was put out at about 8 a.m. and the road, which had been closed to through traffic, was opened shortly after.'
