Lawyers for two Coquitlam RCMP officers charged with assault following an altercation during a traffic stop were in court Wednesday to set a date for their clients to answer the charges.
On March 16, a Port Coquitlam judge will read one count of assault each against RCMP constables Trevor Doylend, 33, and Marko Duran, 38.
The Mounties were conducting a speed trap on June 17, 2010 when a fight began between Const. Duran and a driver to whom he had issued a ticket, according to the RCMP. The driver was removed from his vehicle and arrested with the assistance of Const. Doylend but upon a supervisor's review of video of the incident taken from a police dashboard camera, a criminal investigation against the Mounties was launched and assault charges were recommended against both officers.
Const. Duran is currently on administrative duty while Const. Doylend remains on patrol duty with Coquitlam Traffic Services.
