Fraser Health has flagged Summit middle school in Coquitlam for a COVID-19 exposure.

Summit middle in Coquitlam is the latest school to be flagged with a COVID-19 exposure while students and staff are on winter break.

Located at 1450 Parkway Blvd., the Westwood Plateau middle school reportedly had an exposure on Dec. 16 when someone who tested positive for coronavirus was on the school grounds.

Earlier this week, Citadel middle school in Port Coquitlam was reported by Fraser Health to have had an exposure on Dec. 8, 9, 10, 11,14 and 15.

As of Tuesday (Dec. 22), there were 10 School District 43 schools listed for COVID-19 exposures as well as the British Columbia Christian Academy, which is a private school located in Port Coquitlam.

Meanwhile, the Coquitlam drive-thru testing station continues to operate over the winter holidays and will be open on Dec. 25. Fraser Health recommends anyone who has symptoms to fill out an online assessment and book an appointment for a test.

According to the health authority, a school “exposure” usually indicates a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection attended school during their infectious period.

A school “cluster,” on the other hand, indicates possible school-based transmission with two or more lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 attending school while infectious, and an “outbreak” indicates “multiple individuals with lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection” and that “transmission is likely widespread.”

There have been no clusters or outbreaks in School District 43 since school resumed in September.
