West Coast Express riders who use the Coquitlam Central station will see some big changes due to Evergreen Line construction.

Work on a temporary reconfiguration of the south passenger pick-up and drop-off area started on Sept. 6. In preparation of the arrival of the launching truss in late September or early October, crews are removing the concrete island and repaving the median to create space for the two large cranes that lift the truss into place.

The new configuration will take about two weeks to construct.

Due to the size of the launching truss, the south passenger pick-up and drop-off area will decrease in size and new time restrictions will be implemented.

Access to the WCE station from Lougheed Highway will be maintained, but it will be for immediate pick-up and drop-off only. No waiting and/or parking will be permitted.

The changes come into effect on Sept. 15 and drivers and passengers are advised that Transit Police will be monitoring wait times and violators will be ticketed.

Drivers picking up or dropping off at the Coquitlam Central station or WCE station are encouraged to use the north passenger pick-up and drop-off zone.

Drivers wishing to exit the transit exchange via Mariner Way must access the park-and-ride facility via Mariner Way or the new right-in from Barnet Highway eastbound.

Pedestrians will see detours once the launching truss is delivered and crews begin assembling it. During this time the walkway to the west of the passenger pick-up and drop-off area will be closed for about three weeks.

Once crews are ready to start construction of the elevated guideway in late October or early November, pedestrian access will be reinstated. However, the reconfigured south passenger pick-up and drop-off will remain in place until the spring of 2015.

Additional work on the Evergreen Line at Pinetree Way and Guildford Way will bring temporary nighttime closures starting the week of Sept. 15, when crews begin installing girders for the Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station.

Drivers can expect a full closure of Pinetree northbound, between Guildford and Town Centre Boulevard, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for about two nights. During this time, northbound traffic will be shifted to the west side of Pinetree Way.

As well, Guildford between Pinetree and Westwood Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately one night as crews pour a section of the concrete deck for the elevated guideway.
