Four of Coquitlam's nine council members will carry the lion's share of the workload on city committees next year.
On Monday, council appointed Coun. Craig Hodge to chair three committees (Maillardville revitalization, Riverview lands and sports council) and councillors Brent Asmundson, Terry O'Neill and Neal Nicholson to lead two committees each.
Asmundson will oversee multiculturalism and sustainability, O'Neill will be responsible for Evergreen Line public art and Coquitlam River aggregate while Nicholson will chair arts and universal access-ability.
Coun. Mae Reid will head the Celebrate Coquitlam advisory panel and Mayor Richard Stewart will be in charge of the strategic investment advisory panel.
As for statutory committees, newly elected councillors Chris Wilson and Bonita Zarrillo will be responsible for the joint family court committee and parcel tax review panel, respectively.
O'Neill will remain the city's representative on the Coquitlam Library Board and will continue as chair of the city/school board liaison committee.
The only 2014 appointments for Coun. Lou Sekora are as vice-chair to Celebrate Coquitlam and the sports council.
Meanwhile, Coquitlam's representatives at the regional table will stay the same next year. Last week, council appointed Mayor Richard Stewart and Coun. Mae Reid to continue to be the Metro Vancouver board members for the city. Stewart will hold four votes on the board while Reid will carry three votes.
Council also nominated its elected officials for 2014 Metro standing committees:
Stewart: housing; intergovernmental and administration; regional planning and agriculture; utilities;
Craig Hodge: environment and parks;
Nicholson: zero waste;
O'Neill: intergovernmental and administration (regional culture); transportation;
Reid: finance; intergovernmental and administration (electoral area);
and Zarrillo: aboriginal relations.
Those nominations will be considered by Metro Vancouver board chair Greg Moore, the mayor of Port Coquitlam, later this month.
