Coquitlam. Coun. Selina Robinson will fly the flag for the New Democrats in the riding of Coquitlam-Maillardville in the next provincial election after being acclaimed by the riding association this week.
Robinson, a second term councillor who was elected last November, was the only person to submit nomination papers in the seven weeks since sitting NDP MLA Diane Thorne announced her retirement in September.
"I am excited to be the NDP candidate for Coquitlam-Maillardville constituency," Robinson stated in a press release. "The opportunity to serve this community at the provincial level means that I can bring everything that I have learned as a community volunteer, advocate and city councillor to the job."
Robinson was first elected to Coquitlam city council in 2008. Prior to political life, she worked for Share Family and Community Services and UBC's Life and Learning Centre while maintaining a private counseling and family therapy practice.
The Coquitlam-Maillardville constituency association will be confirming the nomination at a meeting at 12:15 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 25 at the Canadian Legion - 1025 Ridgeway Ave, Coquitlam.
