A natural gas leak in Coquitlam Wednesday afternoon has been repaired, with affected residents expected to have appliances back up and running shortly.

The leak on Robson Drive, near Hockaday Street, was called in to Fortis BC at about 12:45 p.m. Coquitlam Fire and Rescue closed off the street so that technicians could repair the damage, said Fortis spokesperson David Wylie.

The work was completed just after 2 p.m. and technicians expected to have appliances re-lit in the homes of five nearby homes that were affected by the gas shut-off.

Wylie couldn't say exactly what caused the gas leak, only that it was third-party damage and the call came in from a contractor.
