Coquitlam light show ends this weekend

Coquitlam is about to turn out the lights on the holiday season so this weekend will be your last chance to walk through the colourful displays at Lafarge Lake and city hall.

On Monday, city staff will dismantle the popular Christmas exhibit, which draws thousands of visitors each year to the winter wonderland.

For the 2014 display, 15 more tree wraps were added plus a tulip light garden, shoreline net lighting, light spheres hung in trees, bench elves and a 14-foot-high animated fishing elf.

"We felt we succeeded in tying together the lighting display between the waterfall and the fishing pier, thus filling in the dark spots along that stretch" of the path," said Phil Hebner, the city's asset and operations manager.

Hebner was unable to provide the cost totals for the displays but more city staff were used to install the basic parts and LED lights and a timer cut down on the electricity bill, he said. A Port Coquitlam business was also hired to help.

Hebner said plans are already underway to expand in 2015, with more unique elements and community art.

"There seems to be an expectation to add a little every season and we love to deliver," he said.
