A Coquitlam man is facing charges after police caught him leaving a ground-floor apartment in the 600-block of Como Lake Avenue.

Members of the Prolific Target Team had been patrolling the area after crime reports showed a substantial increase in residential break-ins in the Como Lake area, between Clarke Road and Townley Street.

Coquitlam RCMP stated that shortly after midnight on July 30 investigators spotted the man, who was dressed in dark clothing and nervously looking at passing vehicles, before he suddenly jumped over a fence of a ground-floor apartment.

Police said he appeared to check if anyone was home by knocking on the patio door, after which he allegedly pried it open with a crowbar, entered the suite and left a short time later with bags full of stolen goods.

Officers quickly moved in and arrested the man.

Michael Languedoc, 37, is facing charges of break and enter, possession of a break-in instrument and driving while prohibited.

He's been held in custody since his arrest and will appear in court again on Aug. 21.
