Coquitlam man wanted for reportedly selling fake gold

A Coquitlam man is wanted by Vancouver Police for selling fake bars of gold. On Feb. 26, the man allegedly sold four bars that looked and felt like one-ounce gold bars.

On Feb. 26, the man allegedly sold four bars that looked and felt like one-ounce gold bars. But shortly after the purchase, the buyer cut one of the bars open and found it was gold-plated copper worth about $8.

Thomas Eric Mezei, 55, has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and has an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Anyone with information about Mezei's whereabouts, or who believes they've been the target of a similar scam, is asked to contact their local police department.
