A Port Coquitlam man is facing several charges after police stopped him in a stolen car.

Members of Coquitlam RCMP's Prolific Target Team spotted the vehicle on the evening of June 19. When the driver stopped for gas investigators arrested the three occupants.

"The driver is known...to flee from the police at all costs, even if he has to physically ram his way through with the stolen vehicle and drive away at high speed," said Cpl. Jamie Chung in a release. "Out of an abundance of caution we waited for the suspect to be outside the vehicle before we moved in to arrest him."

Ian MacKay, 44, faces charges including possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments and operating a motor vehicle while disqualified.

The two passengers, 34-year-old Amber Porter and 18-year-old Tessa Dewsbury, are each facing one count of breach of recognizance/undertaking.

Police are sorting through a large amount of seized items from inside the vehicle, believed to have been stolen from across the Lower Mainland, and say there may be additional charges.

MacKay remains in custody and is due back in court June 27.
