Cheer on members of the Coquitlam RCMP tomorrow (Thursday) as they run to raise money for Special Olympics BC.
The officers are taking part in the BC Law Enforcement Torch Run, which runs from June 5 to 8 in nearly 30 communities across B.C.
The Torch Run has been raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes and programs since 1990. Law enforcement personnel complete a run of three to five kilometres and then join Special Olympics athletes and community members for a post-run celebration.
In Coquitlam, the festivities take place on June 7 at Coquitlam Spirit Square (3005 Burlington Dr., across from city hall) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a barbecue lunch, a chance to have your photo taken with the RCMP Safety Bear and speeches from local officials and Special Olympics representatives.
"I think we can all learn something from these athletes," said Coquitlam RCMP Supt. Claude Wilcott in a release. "They train and compete for the pure love of their sport. I'm always proud to see the Coquitlam RCMP team show up to support the Special Olympics team."
