Coquitlam RCMP are investigating a collision between a Ford F350 and an RCMP cruiser in Port Coquitlam last week that resulted in the police car being towed from the scene.
The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at the intersection of Coast Meridian and Prairie Avenue, resulting in a traffic tie-up while the cruiser was towed away.
RCMP spokesperson Michael McLaughlin said no-one was injured in the incident and police are still investigating.
“There will be a fair and full investigation,” McLaughlin said, noting that there was no “overt” criminal behaviour in the accident, or evidence of distracted driving, speed or impairment and because there was no “serious harm” caused to anyone, local police can do the investigation.
“In this case, we would normally just consider it ourselves,” McLaughlin confirmed.
