The Coquitlam RCMP has identified several crime hot spots as part of its most recent CompStat Alert.
One neighbourhood between Austin Avenue, Delestre Avenue, North Road and Guilby Street has seen an uptick in break-ins at residential underground parking lots. Thieves have been primarily targeting Hondas and Acuras from the 1990s, taking licence plates and other items.
Another area that has seen an increase in break-ins is the neighbourhood located between Seguin Drive, Woolridge Street, King Edward Street and Lucille Star Way. In that area, police said that thieves have been breaking into businesses, gaining entry through smashed glass doors.
A third hot spot has been identified in Port Coquitlam between Lougheed Highway, Kingsway Avenue, Westwood Street and Hastings Street. Thieves in this area have been breaking into business yards, gaining access to the sites by cutting through fencing.
Police encourage business owners to install quality security systems and ensure their property is well lit with clear site lines from the street.
