A late night altercation Tuesday between several men on the street prompted the Coquitlam RCMP to investigate a fraud allegation against one man believed to be selling fake tickets for the Pemberton Music Festival.
Police believe several victims recently bought what they thought were real tickets to this weekend's Pemberton Music Festival through Craigslist for $280 each. When they suspected the tickets were not genuine, they called the seller back for a meeting. By the time the police were called, the meeting had escalated from an argument between the seller and the victims to a physical altercation.
Three tickets with the following ticket numbers were seized along with a significant amount of cash from the 21 year-old suspect:
• 00991241865453
• 00991241865354
• 00991241865255
“Our investigation indicates the alleged fake tickets are copies of the genuine ones. At this point, we cannot be certain if fraudulent tickets with other serial numbers were sold. We urge anyone who bought their Pemberton Music Festival tickets through third-party sellers to contact the event organizer to confirm if their tickets are genuine as soon as possible. In addition, if you bought festival tickets with the above-mentioned serial numbers, you should contact us at our non-emergency number 604-945-1550,” said Cpl.l Jamie Chung.
Charges are pending against the 21 year-old Coquitlam man.
“We want to remind everyone not to take the law into their own hands. If they suspected they have been victimized by fraud or any other crime, call your local police immediately,” added Chung.
