Police have released surveillance video footage and are seeking a person and vehicle of interest related to Tuesday's hit-and-run in which a 15-year-old Port Coquitlam girl was killed.
According to Coquitlam RCMP, investigators have not identified or spoken to the man seen in the video, but believe he could have information about the moments immediately before and after the collision at Pitt River Road and Mary Hill Road.
"Today we are asking for the public's help identifying the man in this video and two other people who were at the scene so our team can speak to them about what they saw," said Insp. Paulette Freill.
The video shows a black truck pulling over to the side of the road, across from the parked vehicle. A few seconds later the vehicle pulls ahead slightly and a Caucasian male, wearing a white T-shirt, exits the vehicle. He is seen walking to the front of his vehicle and then walks around and continues toward the intersection where the collision occurred. Approximately 30 seconds later he is seen returning to his vehicle and drives away.
In addition to the man pictured in the video, investigators are hoping to identify and speak to the following people:
The driver of a silver truck that witnesses report was in the immediate vicinity of the collision. The truck is not a suspect vehicle. Police do not have a physical description of the driver.
The man who administered first aid to the victim immediately after the collision.
"On behalf of the victim, her family and friends and everyone who has been touched by this tragedy, I am asking these three individuals, as well as anyone else with information about the collision, to contact us immediately," said Freill. "And I have a message for the driver who left the scene. We need to speak to you and it is not too late to do the right thing."
