A Coquitlam man is in serious but stable condition after receiving a stab wound during an altercation at a home in the City Centre neighbourhood Monday afternoon.
While they would not release a name, Mounties believe they have identified the suspect, who is well-known to police, although they have yet to locate him and make an arrest.
“We have a good idea who this is,” said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, adding: “The people that live in the home know the suspect and the suspect knows them.”
The stabbing occurred at a home in the 2800-block of Mccomb Drive, near the Funshine Daycare and Learning Centre, at around 1:30 p.m. Investigators had taped off the property and there was a large police presence in the area for most of the afternoon.
McLaughlin said the incident was not random and there is no risk to the broader public.
“The attack was intended to be targeted,” he added.
