Investigators noticed the writing on the sidewalk on the south section of Austin Avenue and believe the person has vital information about the crash.

The incident took place at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when an elderly couple were crossing Austin Avenue at Gatensbury. The victims, Juan Jose Rosales, 76, and Marta Dolores Rosales, 66, both died at the scene.

Police are requesting that anyone with any information - particularly the person that wrote the licence plate number - to come forward.

Witnesses can call Cpl. Neil Roemer at 604-945-1558 and quote file number 2013-34951. Tips can also be sent anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by going to www.solvecrime.ca.

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung confirmed on Thursday that a person of interest was taken into custody but was subsequently released.

CTV News is reporting that the man investigators spoke with is a 90-year-old veteran of the Second World War. Chung said that a silver truck has been secured by police and they are currently examining the vehicle.

Francisco Rosales, Juan and Marta's son, said Juan was a pastor and that the family are prepared to forgive the driver.

"We know they are with Jesus and we have to hold on to him, too," he told CTV News. "And one day we are going to see them in glory."
