Coquitlam RCMP seek witnesses to pedestrian MVA

Coquitlam RCMP want more information about what happened in the moments leading up to a pedestrian accident around midnight Monday at the intersection of Pinetree Way and Lougheed Highway near the transit loop.

Coquitlam RCMP want more information about what happened in the moments leading up to a pedestrian accident around midnight Monday at the intersection of Pinetree Way and Lougheed Highway near the transit loop.

A teenage girl was hit and taken to hospital with a broken leg and internal injuries; she remains in hospital in stable condition.

Mounties say the driver stayed at the scene to co-operate with investigators but police would like more information on the contributing factors to the incident and are asking people who may have been driving in the area at the time to call 604-945-1550, quoting file number 2014-5017.

RCMP are looking for "people who would be approaching the intersection from any direction around midnight," said spokesperson Cpl. Jamie Chung. "We want to know how the vehicle and pedestrian [were proceeding] prior to the impact."

Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as contributing factors and, at the time of the accident, the road was wet but not icy, Chung said.

The pedestrian was walking towards the bus loop on Lougheed Highway and the vehicle was heading south on Pinetree Way at the time of the incident.
