A Coquitlam Grade 6 student is the national winner of a Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) poster contest.

Eva Huang, 12, a Summit Middle School student, was the top choice for judges in the contest held to teach students about climate-sensitive infectious diseases like Lyme disease and West Nile Virus.

She wins a Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3 and a $300 Chapters Indigo gift card for her poster depicting symptoms and prevention tips for West Nile Virus.

“This contest is great way to increase awareness and engage children in topics such as climate change and infectious diseases. We received a record number of submissions this year from many talented young students. Congratulations to our poster contest winners,” stated Ian Culbert, executive director, CPHA.

A panel of judges carefully reviewed more than 900 submissions and selected winning posters based on creativity, artistic quality, colourfulness, imagination and a clear message.

All winners will also receive a copy of the book, Grandpa’s Wisdom – An Algonquin Reflection on West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease, by Albert Dumont.
