A Coquitlam teenager who already has nearly 50 run-ins with police under his belt is now facing an assault charge after an incident outside a New Westminster SkyTrain station last weekend.
At about 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 the alleged victim was standing at a bus stop outside the Braid station when he saw a group of teens, including three girls and one boy, start to kick the nearby bike lockers.
When he asked the kids to stop the Coquitlam teen started yelling at him to back off, saying he was on drugs, and then went towards the victim with a knife in his hand.
According to Transit Police the victim defended himself by kicking the boy and grabbing his cell phone. The boy ran away with the man's briefcase; when he tried to retrieve it he was punched in the face by one of the girls, who also ran away.
Witnesses advised the teens had jumped on the train and appeared to be heading to Lougheed Station. Transit Police found the briefcase in a garbage can at the Braid Station but could not locate the suspects.
A Transit Police officer spotted two of the teens matching the suspects' descriptions at Lougheed Station at about 1 a.m. Sunday and both were arrested.
The Coquitlam youth has since been charged with assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000; he remains in custody with his next scheduled court appearance on June 11.
He's also charged with breaching his release conditions in relation to two prior robbery charges. The 14-year-old's nearly 50 prior contacts with police involve offences such as theft, drugs and robberies.
The female suspect was released with charges pending further investigation.
