With La Nina forecasted, the City of Coquitlam is calling on snow angels to descend for the cold, wet winter.
Altruistic residents, including teenagers ages 16 and up, can volunteer with the municipality to clear sidewalks for neighbours who may need help when the white stuff falls.
And students in School District 43 can earn high school volunteer credits for their shovelling efforts, too. Kids under 16 years old can also join the Snow Angel Program as long as they have adult supervision.
Besides completing a police information check, volunteers will need to make sure they are physically fit to clear snow from one or two homes each snow fall for the full season.
Specifically, the municipality is asking for assistants in these neighbourhoods, some on hills:
- Austin Heights
- Como Lake
- Eagle Ridge
- Harbour Village
- Laurentian Belaire
- Westwood Plateau
Snow angels who apply will be matched with neighbours in need within 10 hours after a snowfall. The city will supply a shovel, toque, scarf, ice cleats and mitts to volunteers.
To apply, you can fill out the City of Coquitlam's online form.
Meanwhile, Coquitlam residents ages 65 and older, or people with mobility challenges, can get a snow angel by calling 604-927-6076 or emailing [email protected].
