The city of Coquitlam wants residents to be winter wise this season.
With colder and rainier weather in the forecast, residents are being asked to make sure all catch basin grates around their property are cleared to prevent flooding. People should also guard against falling branches and prune dead trees to reduce the danger of them falling on homes or power lines during storms.
And if snow is in the forecast, get your shovels ready.
"As a responsible neighbour and citizen, it is important to clear all the sidewalks around your home within 10 hours of the snow stopping," the city said in a press release, later adding: "During periods of extended snow, consider checking up on neighbours who may need a helping hand."
Residents are asked not to shovel snow on the road, as it will likely end up back on the sidewalk when the plows come through the area.
Garbage collection can also become an issue when the winter weather hits. If a cart has not been collected on the scheduled date, the city said it needs to be taken back inside and placed on the curb the next day.
"If it still isn't collected, please bring them in again and wait until your next regularly scheduled collection day," the city said in a press release.
