Funding for more non-market housing could be on the way next year in Coquitlam.

The city is entering into preliminary discussions with non-profits and housing organizations looking to take advantage of the provincial government’s Community Housing Fund.

In 2017, the city was successful in attracting $7.2 million for 72 homes at 3100 Ozada Ave., $13.2 million to the Community Land Trust to replace 132-units at the condemned Hoy Creek Housing Co-op and $10 million for 100 non-market units built with Concert Properties near the new Burquitlam YMCA.

A second request for proposals is expected from the provincial government in 2020 and the city is looking for non-profit groups with which it can partner.

“City staff will need to initiate new partnerships early and continue preliminary discussions with potential non-profit organizations in order to support their effort to secure funding and best position them for successful applications to B.C. Housing,” said the staff report.
