A Coquitlam lacrosse star and a city manager who died three years ago will be recognized at Monday's council meeting for his longtime civic work.

Council and staff will honour the late Trevor Wingrove, who was the city's general manager of corporate services when cancer claimed his life on July 29, 2010. Members of the public are invited to attend the event at city hall (3000 Guildford Way), which starts at 7 p.m.

Last year, the Coquitlam Foundation launched the Trevor Wingrove Bursary Fund to help Tri-City student athletes with their post-secondary tuition.

And in 2011, the Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association renamed its Dogwood Tournament as the Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament; in tribute of Wingrove's sportsmanship, it also established the Trevor Wingrove Inspirational Player Award.

Wingrove won eight provincial championships with the organization. He also clinched several accolades with the Coquitlam junior and senior Adanacs.
