#CQCompStat: Extra RCMP patrols out in Port Coquitlam in light of more vehicle thefts

Break-and-enters and property theft are also on the rise in a pair of PoCo neighbourhoods.

It appears Port Coquitlam has seen a recent uptick in property crime, including vehicle theft.

According to RCMP's latest CompStat report, five vehicles have been reported missing to police as well as nearly 10 theft-from-vehicle incidents across the city.

As a result, the Coquitlam detachment is sending out more patrols to canvas to a pair of local neighbouring areas that have recently become "hotspots" for these related crimes.

Specific locations of these reports can be found on the map below.

There have also been nearly a dozen break and enters reported to Mounties in recent weeks, including those at PoCo businesses and homes.

Between now and March 8, RCMP are set to keep extra sets of eyes on the following areas:

AREA #1

  • From Reeve Street in the west to Tyner Street in the east
  • From McAllister Avenue in the north to Stafford Avenue in the south

AREA #2

  • From Lancaster Place in the west to Seymour Street in the east
  • From Lougheed Highway in the north to Davies Avenue in the south

Police are encouraging residents and businesses to take all precautionary steps necessary to protect personal property.

This includes:

  • Locking doors and closing windows
  • Parking in well-lit/well-populated areas where "natural surveillance" can serve as a deterrent
  • Closing garage doors at night
  • Taking your garage opener, house and/or business keys and vehicle registration papers out of your vehicle when it’s parked (if thieves steal these items, they could use them to commit other crimes including identity theft and break-and-enter)

Anyone who witnesses theft in progress or suspicious activity is encouraged to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550, or call 911.
