Coquitlam RCMP is hoping to assist families in need with its annual Cram the Cruiser food drive next month.
Local Mounties and volunteers will fill up police cars with non-perishable food items donated by people in the community. All proceeds will go to Share Family and Community Services, which assisted more than 4,000 people in need last year.
"We look forward to this event every year because it is a chance for the Coquitlam RCMP to meet the public and come together," said Const. Justin Christofferson. "It's amazing how generous people are during the holidays, which is traditionally an expensive time for families already."
Last year, the Cram the Cruiser fundraiser collected 806 lbs. of food and omore than $1,900 in cash. The RCMP is hoping to beat that record this year. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Real Canadian Superstore parking lot (3000 Lougheed Hwy.), at Westwood Mall.
