Dave Pickton launches foundation to battle poverty in Ghana

Dave Pickton, the brother of convicted serial killer Robert Pickton, has launched a foundation to help battle poverty in Ghana.

Dave Pickton, the brother of convicted serial killer Robert Pickton, has launched a foundation to help battle poverty in Ghana.

The Pickton Foundation is collecting donations at its website and said it intends to help provide clean drinking water for the rural poor and to assist in agricultural production.

A search of the Canada Revenue Agency's registered charities listings showed no record of the foundation.

Funds raised by the foundation, according to the website, will also go toward paying for medicine for Ghanians who have become ill as a result of drinking unclean water.

"We understand that some of the good people of this world aren't aware of how grave living conditions in the developing world is, especially in the remote villages in Africa," said the website. "We feel it is our call to alert the good people of the world of how hard it is for some people to even get a single meal in a day."

Pickton is listed as a partner in the organization, which is based out of Port Coquitlam. On the foundation's website, it states that Pickton first visited Ghana on a business trip and he realized he wanted to assist the poverty-stricken region.

Robert Pickton was convicted of six murders at his trial in 2007. The Crown did not proceed with 20 additional murder counts after Pickton lost his appeals. At trial, the court heard the former Port Coquitlam resident tell an undercover police officer in 2002 that he had killed 49 woman.

A Missing Women Inquiry is currently underway.
