Deadline for making a charitable donation nears

Last minute charitable donations are sought as 2018 winds down.

Many local organizations, including Share Family and Community Services, are hoping that residents think of donating to their local charity before the 2018 donation period for tax purposes ends Dec. 31.

About 25% of Canadians take advantage of the the tax credits offered to Canadians who donate to charities, according to the latest numbers.

According to Share, which recently sent out a mail out, a donation provides support for over 53,000 residents of the Tri-Cities area through programs and services such as youth substance use services and health promotions, social programs for seniors, counseling, early childhood mental health, the local food bank and more.

The tax incentives can add up to as much as 53% of the charitable donation.
