About two dozen protesters gathered outside of Port Coquitlam NDP MLA Mike Farnworth's constituency office on Wednesday as part of a province-wide day of action to oppose pipelines and tankers in B.C.
The Defend Our Coast event in PoCo was organized by Amy Anne Lubik, a postdoctoral fellow at the Vancouver Prostate Centre who fears the proposed Enbridge line from Calgary would ruin the Great Bear Rainforest in northern B.C.
Farnworth, the NDP health critic, was travelling in the interior during the protest; however, his former constituency assistant, PoCo Coun. Brad West, took questions from the crowd, which held signs reading "Stand On Guard! Protect Our Coast!" and "BC Is Not For Sale."
West, who is with the United Steelworkers union, also urged the protestors to "keep our eye on the prize" and to take their message to the ballot box for the May provincial election.
