A Delta senior has died after being hit by a van in Coquitlam on Friday night.

The 75-year-old pedestrian was on Mariner Way near Dewdney Trunk Road at about 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 10 when he was hit by a white GMC van driven by a North Vancouver man. He was later pronounced dead at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said the investigation is still in its early stages and couldn't say whether the Delta man was crossing the road at the time he was hit.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision. The driver of the van remained at the scene and is co-operating with police.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call Coquitlam RCMP traffic services at 604-945-1550.
