School District 43 is getting closer to selling eight acres of land in Coquitlam with the demolition of the former Coronation Park elementary school on Balmoral Drive in Coquitlam.

School District 43 is getting closer to selling eight acres of land in Coquitlam with the demolition of the former Coronation Park elementary school on Balmoral Drive in Coquitlam.

Workers from Port Coquitlam-based Litchfield are now on scene for demolition of the school that was closed in 2007, and a spokesperson from School District 43 said work is proceeding to "determine future potential" of the property.

A rezoning will be necessary to facilitate development on the 8.3 acre site that is currently zoned P-1 or civic institutional, and it's not known how long the process will take.

In January of this year, the school district approved the sale of the land, along with eight lots at Parkland elementary school, following a lengthy Learning Lands and Neighbourhood consultation process.

SD43 is now seeking proposals from developers for the sale of the land, with the caveat that green space and a community amenity be included in the development.
