Last summer, a local resident found and brought a gold coin to the Coquitlam RCMP detachment.

Now, police are turning to the public with the hope that its rightful owner can claim their lost treasure.

In a news release today (April 13), Mounties explain the coin was found in Port Coquitlam on June 23, 2021, in the 1900-block of Pitt River Road — just south of Pitt River Community Middle School.

Spokesperson Const. Deanna Law says the person that comes forward must be able to answer questions about the coin and provide a very specific description.

This includes its size, denomination, value, unique markings or features and what it was carried in the day it was lost.

"Coquitlam RCMP would like to remind the public that if you have lost valuables, you can call police and make a report," adds Law.

"Police would simply like to get the item back to the rightful owner."

No other information or photo of the coin is being released as police confirm to the Tri-City News they're looking for the rightful owner, "and only the rightful owner."

If the lost coin is yours, you can claim it by calling Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file-number 2021-16706.
