The nursing program at the Coquitlam campus of Douglas College has its eyes set on China after signing an exchange with the Shanghai Redleaf Women's Hospital.

Beginning as early as 2015, eight nursing students from Douglas will complete practicums at the hospital, gaining exposure to areas of medicine including obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics and newborn care. The agreement, reached this month, also allows up to six nurses per year from Redleaf hospital to visit Douglas College and learn about nursing in the western health care system.

On March 23, Douglas president Scott McAlpine sealed the deal, signing an agreement with John Yeh, CEO of Redleaf.

Located in eastern China, Shanghai Redleaf Women's Hospital is a 105-bed facility that provides a range of health care services for women and children. The hospital has an existing partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital.
