A Coquitlam man is facing driving charges after crashing a car through the window of a Church's Chicken on Johnson Street Wednesday night.

Earlier in the evening a Coquitlam RCMP officer had noticed the vehicle driving erratically but lost track of the sedan before it could be pulled over.

By the time the officer tracked the driver the vehicle had crashed through the restaurant shortly after 10:30 p.m. The suspect fled on foot but was found a few blocks away trying to get into a taxi.

"The taxi was checked and the male occupant matched the description," said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung. "We are looking at a couple of charges."

The suspect was held in custody overnight and was expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
