The driver of a semi truck that was stopped by a large metal beam flying through its windows was uninjured, according to police.
It was shortly after 9 a.m. Monday morning when the beam apparently slid from the truck bed through the back and front windows before coming to rest like a slide from the cab down to the highway.
The off-ramp to Brunette Avenue from westbound Highway 1 was closed for several hours while RCMP and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement unit investigated.
The owner of Surrey-based Top Line Trucking said the driver is okay but was being examined in the hospital and he hadn't yet spoken to him to learn the details of what happened.
The driver has been in the trucking business for 10 years, but had just started with Top Line about six months ago.
More to come.
