An allegedly intoxicated Coquitlam boat operator, who police said collided with two vessels in the marina at Deep Cove, has received a 90-day roadside driving prohibition and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.
North Vancouver RCMP said they received a call at 7 p.m. Sunday after four intoxicated males threatened another boater. As the group left the marina, they hit two other boats, causing minimal damage.
The RCMP patrol vessel conducted an immediate search of the area and located the alleged driver of the boat at Rocky Point, where he was backing his truck and trailer up to the boat launch.
Police said the driver failed the roadside screening test and the 34-year-old received a 90-day driving prohibition and has had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.
"Drinking and driving, whether on land or water is illegal and punishable under the criminal code and provincial acts," said North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong. "It is well known that drinking and taking to the water can lead to dangerous situations.
"Operators are responsible for the safety of their guests and should consider other users of the waterway."
