Long time Coquitlam teacher Chris King has announced that he will be a candidate for school trustee in Port Coquitlam this November.
Recently retired, King spent 37 years in the education system as a teacher and a member of the Coquitlam Teachers' Association executive, where he worked before retiring.
According to his press release, King has worked with all partner groups and stakeholders to develop and implement programs at the school and district level. As well, he has experience working in education at the elementary, middle, junior and secondary levels.
His campaign will focus on advocacy and greater accountability, and more scrutiny of education expenditures.
"Coquitlam [district] has faced many devastating cuts in the past 12 years and the community deserves trustees who are effective advocates. Effective advocacy means speaking out and highlighting the consequences of government cuts to education and to get the public on board. We have to show that we are spending the money we do have in a careful and responsible way."
The civic election vote takes place Saturday, Nov. 15.
